Harvest Duck Eggs, incubate them and go to the market to sell | One Wish
1. Harvesting Duck Eggs
- Morning Collection: Start your day by gathering duck eggs from the nest. Early morning is ideal as ducks typically lay their eggs overnight. Ensure you handle the eggs carefully to avoid cracks or damage.
- Inspection: After collecting, inspect each egg for any defects. Remove any cracked or irregular eggs as they may not be suitable for incubation or selling.
2. Incubating the Eggs
- Incubator Setup: Prepare your incubator by setting it to the correct temperature, usually around 99.5°F (37.5°C), and maintaining a humidity level of 55-60%. Make sure the incubator is clean and functioning properly before placing the eggs inside.
- Egg Placement: Place the eggs in the incubator with the pointed end facing down. Turn the eggs at least three times a day to ensure even heating and prevent the embryo from sticking to the shell.
- Monitoring: Keep an eye on the temperature and humidity levels throughout the incubation period, which typically lasts about 28 days. Regularly candle the eggs (shine a light through them) to check the development of the embryos.
3. Hatching and Preparing for Sale
- Hatching Process: As the eggs reach the end of the incubation period, they will begin to hatch. Once the ducklings start to break through the shell, maintain a stable environment by avoiding unnecessary opening of the incubator. Allow the ducklings to hatch naturally.
- Post-Hatching Care: After hatching, transfer the ducklings to a brooder with adequate warmth, food, and water. Let them grow until they are strong and healthy enough to be sold.
4. Going to the Market
- Packaging: Carefully package the ducklings or eggs, depending on what you’re selling. Use ventilated containers for ducklings and cushioned cartons for eggs to prevent damage during transport.
- Market Day: On the day of the market, ensure that you arrive early to set up your stall. Display your products attractively and engage with customers, highlighting the quality and care put into your products.
- Selling Tips: Be prepared to answer questions about your duck eggs or ducklings. Offer special deals for bulk purchases, and be sure to bring enough change and packaging materials.
